Our Speaker today is Deb DaSilva, Senior Director of Partner Engagement of Exodus World Service. Exodus World Service mobilizes the Christian community to welcome and befriend refugees.
At our meeting earlier this week, Renee Z. Dominguez, Ph.D., Co-Executive Director of Family Service Center (FSC), spoke to our club about FSC's history (founded in 1913) and work in the North Shore community (and beyond) for 113 YEARS! Simply summed up, their work is as stated in their Mission:
To strengthen and empower families and communities by providing accessible evidenced‐based counseling, crisis response, outreach and education.
And they do a great job of it, especially as the need for mental health services is increases as our society becomes more complex.
At last week's Lunch meeting, Lisa Hannenan and Elizabeth Andaas spoke about "Blessings in a Backpack": Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that feeds school children in the United States who are fed during the week on the federally funded Free and Reduced Meal Program and are at risk of going hungry on the weekends. The program is new to our area, and the need is here as well. Our club is interested in supporting their efforts to make it a reality in our community.
Also, our club was recognized and congratulated by the President of the Cook County Board and the Cook County Board of Commissioners for our 60 years of service to the community. Commissioner Scott Britton, a fellow Kiwanian, presented the Resolution for this honor to our club. We are very grateful for the recognition. ... See MoreSee Less
