Occurring every September, Pretzel Days is an annual fundraising event organized by our club. During this event, members and volunteers distribute pretzels in bags and solicit donations from the public, typically at street corners and shopping centers. Key Club Continuing Education Funds (Topaz/Bevington)
Every year, our Kiwanis club raises continuing education funds for the Glenbrook South and Glenbrook North High School Key Clubs through various fundraising initiatives, including Pretzel Days, community/sports drawings, and raffles.
Study Buddies (Youth Services of Glenview-Northbrook)
Study Buddies is a free academic-support program designed for children in grades 1-8. A small group of children is paired with a Study Buddy, who is a volunteer from a local high school or an adult from the community. In addition to providing homework help, the program also focuses on relationship building and mentorship. In addition, volunteer groups provide and serve food to the children beforehand.
Pizza Mania
Our club’s SIGNATURE project. Pizza Mania is an annual fundraising event for the Wesley Child Care Center in Glenview, Illinois, featuring all-you-can-eat pizza from local restaurants, raffles, and other family-friendly activities. It’s a community event that supports the center’s tuition assistance program.

At this weeks Kiwanis Club meeting our speaker was Calvin Lam of the CoderSchool, Glenview. In an AI world, the CoderSchool teaches kids (of all ages) to think logically, explain their ideas, and problem-solve creatively and not solely relying on AI for easy answers. Code Coaches help turn big ideas into real tech projects...all while having some fun. Learning to code builds critical thinking skills that will help coders to thrive in an AI-centric world. At last week's club meeting, Jennifer Keen of the Alzheimer's Association spoke about a comprehensive lifestyle approach to support brain health and potentially lower the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Key elements of this approach include:
• The MIND Diet: Focuses on plant-based foods linked to dementia prevention.
• Sleep and Brain Health: Quality sleep allows the brain to clear out cellular waste and toxic proteins, such as beta-amyloid, which are linked to Alzheimer's disease.
• Word Games and Mental Stimulation: Pairing word games or board games with social interaction provides a greater boost to overall well-being and cognitive reserve.
This week's meeting featured Deb DaSilva, Senior Director of Partner Engagement at Exodus World Service. Exodus World Service mobilizes local communities to welcome and befriend refugees (people who are forced to flee their country due to WAR or PERSECUTION). Exodus helps to assimilate refugees by providing support for everyday living (care packs), meeting neighbors (building friendships), and building community (group programs).
